A Whole New Look

So, yeah, Cristian Guzman and Nook Logan were back on the field yesterday, moving Ronnie Belliard to the bench, Felipe Lopez to 2nd and Ryan Church to left field. The configuration should remain that way for the foreseeable future. I enjoyed hearing Nook on the pre-game radio show – nice to have him back. I’ll miss Ronnie in the field, but hopefully he’ll bring more pop to the bench where it is desperately needed. Considering he was “hired” to be a bench player in the first place, I don’t really feel bad about this move, since starting every day for six weeks was more of a bonus for him. Those moves were unsurprising, but today some more surprises await…

Jason Simontacchi should, in theory, be making his first start of the season as a National against the Brewers tonight. Josh Wilson seems the likely candidate to be sent down to make room for him.

Winston Abreu was called up from AAA where he served as a closer, but Barry Svrluga says Jon Rauch will likely serve in the closer role til Cordero returns (next Monday, likely). They liked my idea!! They really liked my idea!! (haha, let me roll with it!)

In an unexpected move, Tony Batista is being called up today as well. (I actually noticed this nugget a couple hours ago, but wasn’t sure I was reading it right because it was buried in a minor league report, not an official announcement). No idea who will be sent down, but Svrluga muses that it may be Dmitri Young due to his sore foot. Kory Casto has been playing first base in his last couple appearances and Batista can play first as well, so…. I guess we’ll find out later. Probably breaking news just as the pre-game show is about to start :-) I need to remember to bring a radio to my son’s little league practice!

[UPDATE 5:30 PM] Nope, Dmitri Young was not sidelined, Ryan Wagner was! I didn’t even realize he was hurt. He was placed on the 15 day disabled list with rotator cuff inflammation and Josh Wilson was DFA’d (designated for assignment).
