Photo Day for the Mets

Posted on March 9, 2009 at 6:41 pm

I’ve discovered and followed a few photographers on Twitter while looking for advice and ideas. Most of the photographers I’ve found are wedding photographers (which is obviously not my field aside from shooting my brother-in-law’s). And I had certainly not run across any other female sports photographers. So this is the coolest ever — a couple photographers were hired by SNY to photograph the Mets on portrait day at spring training. Dream assignment! Maybe MASN will hire me one year to do the Nationals? I would totally love that! Until then, I’ll live vicariously through their post. Click on over to see her photos. There’s also a great slideshow on her commercial site (enter and then click on portfolios).

I’ve been thinking about this lately… I’ve been giving away my photos for free and as a wise manager said to me recently, “there’s only so much you can do for the love of the game.” I received an email from a fan the other day who thanked me for my photos because he prints them to get autographs on whereas he used to buy photos online. I’m flattered, truly! That was a great compliment. But… I am mulling over my options. Gotta pay for that equipment somehow! Heh. Plus, there’s another lens I want… ;-) But on the other hand, I don’t get credentialed for games and my seats are not optimal for “pay for it” photography. And who’s going to buy it anyway? So I’ll probably just keep going the way I have. Plus, I love that some of the players’ parents also print my photos and save them. I cherish those stories and it’s worth it to keep them freely available for that alone.
