At least that was how the weekend played out. My mood isn’t much better today, but the weather at least matches now. And no, I can’t pin this all on the Nats. Let’s just say a series of bad luck, mishaps, and attitudes. Odds on Jordan Zimmermann’s debut being pushed back a day due to weather? We’ll find out soon, I suppose. Meanwhile, there are some good newsy things to be excited about.
MASN televised this afternoon’s press conference announcing the other Zimmerman, Ryan Zimmerman, sealing up a contract for the next five years. It made me wonder how much punch gets taken away from events like that when the news is leaked out 24-48 hours prior to announcement. Although, there was some new information that I found interesting. The contract has clauses about Zimm donating annually to the Nationals Dream Foundation, holding a charity event at the stadium each year to benefit both the Dream Foundation and his zimMS Foundation, among other stuff. Interesting!
After yesterday’s loss, the bullpen was blown up as promised. Steven Shell and Wil Ledezma were designated for assignment while Saul Rivera was optioned to AAA. Backup catcher Josh Bard was also DFA’d, clearing the spot for Wil Nieves. Yay!! Garrett Mock, Kip Wells, and Jason Bergmann are coming up (J-Berg pitched well in spring training), and of course, Jordan Zimmermann. So let’s go Nats…!
Rain rain go away….
