‘Tis the Season
December 1, 2006
I mean the holidays, silly, not the off-season! I noticed I’m getting a bit cranky without much Nationals off-season news to write about. Idle hands and all. So I went shopping! In my family, Christmas shopping got way too expensive and out of control as the family expanded, so my dad thankfully instituted a name drawing system. Now each family member draws a name and only has to buy one gift. Whew! Although, somehow Mr.Chatter and I always seem to end up with relatives we know very little about. This year we drew my brother and a cousin. My brother is your typical Chicago Cubs fan, so knowing how much I love to collect Nats stuff, I figured it was a safe bet to buy him a Cubs thing. Like maybe a replica jersey (after verifying with my mom that he doesn’t have one). I was quite surprised to find Soriano replica road and alternate home jerseys! Already! I mean, I ordered this a couple days ago before Soriano was even formally introduced to the press.
I consulted with my mom and probably shouldn’t have because my gut reaction to seeing the jersey was to instantly think it would be perfect! She talked me out of it, saying I would get far more of a kick out of it than he would. So fine. I got him a Derek Lee one instead. But after clicking that “Checkout” button and paying, I thought more about it. If Soriano is going to be with the Cubs for 8 years, I think a Soriano jersey would have been a perfectly good idea! Unless he like suddenly stinks up the joint or gets injured (speaking of, they also had Kerry Wood jerseys!). Oh well, purchase made and hopefully on the way! My dad always likes to give these joke gifts that are really only funny to him, so I suppose had I bought the Soriano jersey (and maybe packaged it with a picture of me and DCSC with him), I would have {gasp} been following in my dad’s footsteps! Can’t have that! (I have to admit, Soriano looks pretty good in a Cubs jersey, but maybe my childhood upbringing has conditioned me to think anyone looks good in one).
So now onto my cousin, who as far as I know, has no interest in baseball. He’s about 25, drinks, and gets in trouble. Other than that, I have no earthly clue about what his interests are. Any suggestions??

I think iTunes gift cards are a good call for anyone under 40 and half the people over 40.

Yeah, I thought of that – except I don’t think he has a computer/internet.

Do you know what he drinks? If he’s on the young side of 25 this won’t be appreciated as much, but a couple of fancy bottles of liquor or a beer of the month sub.
Don’t want to encourage drinking? Maybe a Best Buy gift certificate. Surely he could find something there, right?

Yeah, I’m thinking a gift card is the way to go. Although, that seems kinda lame :-)
Hey, I haven’t been able to get to OMG all day – is it up?
