The Fickster is back!
December 21, 2006
Yesterday, the Nationals signed Robert Fick to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. If he makes the team, he’ll get the same salary he made last year. He’s confident he will. I have to admit, I’m a little tickled trickster Fick (or whatever name he introduced himself as) will be back. Someone needs to keep the clubhouse light! Just don’t go goosing guys in the sensitive area too often or people might begin to gossip! I did mention that, right?
“I have a lot to prove,” said Fick, who batted .266 with two homers and nine RBIs last season in 60 games. “I just want to show them it’s in me. I’ve been working hard here in the offseason. You’re going to see a different guy there in spring training. I know it.”
Just please don’t play right field!
“I think it’s important to have an experienced bench player who can play multiple positions,” general manager Jim Bowden said. “Obviously, Robert can catch, play first, play right and give us a good left-handed bat off the bench.”
