That’s Nats – Vodcast 2-18-07

Spring training is here! Real live baseball players doing real live baseball stuff!
I’ll upload the downloadable version once I get home. More goodies (text) after the jump.
To elaborate on taking little boys to spring training… Let’s see, I’ve had to listen to a full report on and counting every time he expels gas from whatever orifice it comes out of. And then cackling… and then elaborating on the smell. At least there’s one reason to be grateful for the wind! The Florida Today photographer snapped a photo of Little Chatter in full winter gear that will run in tomorrow’s paper. First stop is to fill up on gas (the car kind) and pick up a paper! I also had to hear about 87 whines of “I’m booooored!” particularly today when position players weren’t hitting balls over the fence which kept him occupied yesterday. Honestly, spring training workouts can be a little boring, I suppose.
My mission to get a photo or video of Jon Rauch’s new baby-feet tattoo is still not accomplished. I did manage to quickly speak to him, but I don’t think I was very graceful about it. I should have at least started out by congratulating him on his new arrival! Not sure I’ll try again, but there is always tomorrow (and only tomorrow).
Pitcher Chris Booker officially wins the award for being the only person from the 40/40 Club who recognizes me without prompting :-) Of course, I still haven’t seen Melvin Dorta. I chatted with Booker briefly, but didn’t get any photos or video of him.
Where’s the Party? Well, I’m nursing the last half of a bottle of wine alone since there’s not much else to do. Loverro lamented that this isn’t South Beach (coincidentally, I cracked up reading that after I checked into my hotel which also claims that name). C’mon Thommy, couldn’t you have coordinated a media dinner out or something? If the entertainment doesn’t come to you, create it! I’m flattered that meeting me was the highlight of his day, especially considering I’m one of those young crazy internets people! In person, he’s not nearly as snarky and scary as I expected ;-) I also met Zuckerman, who told me the photo I took of the media in the racing presidents costumes is blown up over his desk. How cool is that?
“I wondered when one of you guys would get here…” was the first thing Ryan Church said to me after I introduced myself. Hope you enjoyed his brief message to fans back home!
Tomorrow the full squad reports, but doesn’t necessarily work out. Hopefully I’ll get some good stuff, but since we’ll be driving back to DC immediately after workouts, there will not be another That’s Nats right away. I’m just relieved the flaky internet in my hotel worked long enough to upload today’s episode! I also updated the photo set with the photos I took today which includes pitcher Ray King (note there are now two pages).
Hee! Baseball! And hello to local Floridian “NASA Mike”, a regular reader I ran into at the Carl Barger complex this morning! Nice to meet you!
Ah, I guess it was Felipe Lopez fielding grounders with Guzman. And here’s more information on pitcher Simontacchi from Todd Jacobson. Also, if Belliard does make the team and is not necessary to replace Guzman in the lineup, he could serve as an infielder off the bench.

Thanks, Miss C! Great to meet you, too. 65 degrees and light winds on Monday – maybe we’ll get to see some uniform numbers and faces instead of winter gear.

Miss Chatters
Great to have you back with the videos. They are the best Nats Blog thing going.

Miss C, the main thing about your videos is that they’ve got content I can’t see anywhere else. Since I can’t get to Viera, watching your video gives me a good sense of what it’s like. Thanks!
Weather in Vienna, VA on Monday, 2/19: 15 degrees and sunny. The ice and snow just won’t melt off. But I guess if I had gone to Florida and had to put up with 40 degrees and high winds, I’d be a bit nonplussed, too.

Well, the first thing I did upon arriving home (at 2:30 am) was slip on ice and fall down hard on the porch steps. OUCH! (and I yelled really loud – sorry neighbors). So yeah, I guess I shouldn’t complain about the weather in Florida -at least there wasn’t an ice hazard!

Miss Chatter,
You are like a foreign correspondent bringing us news from the front! We made the trip in ’05 and can’t wait to get back. Keep the information flowing!
As an aside, for you to have Loverro mention you in the new Times Nats portal is a fantastic tribute to you and the other bloggers.

Thanks, J.Ward – it was sooo hard to leave, especially knowing the full squad would be out there today. Sigh. Back to reality!
