Discarded Peanut Shells – Universe Rights Itself

Frank Robinson, who worked for MLB before being tabbed to manage the homeless Expos, has returned to MLB’s offices as a special advisor to executive vice president of baseball operations Jimmie Lee Solomon. Many have said MLB is who owes him a job, not the Nationals, so it’s good to see they came through. Hopefully the job is meaningful enough for him. The down side? He’s definitely declined a Frank Robinson day at RFK this season.
“You’re Ugly!” Thom Loverro points out the Orioles have a better core of ML players, but ugly ownership in Peter Angelos, stating the Nationals will be (sober) better in the years to come while the Orioles will still be ugly. He lauds the Nationals for opening up to ‘new media’ on the internet. See! I told you he doesn’t hate teh bloggers.
Catcher Brian Schneider knows when he and wife Jordan will become first time parents – Monday! Wow, good luck to them for a smooth delivery and healthy baby girl. Now, will they dress her in those cute baby cheerleader outfits?
Schneider will miss Monday’s game against the Atlanta Braves in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., to attend the birth of his first child.
Schneider’s wife, Jordan, will be induced Monday morning.
Bring on Melvin Dorta! Utility infielder hopeful D’Angelo Jiminez made both of the Nationals fielding errors yesterday at short in the first exhibition game of the season. While those were ‘physical’ mistakes, Manager Acta was more disappointed in the baserunning mistakes (ahhh sound familiar?). Nook Logan was thrown out at the plate trying to stretch a run from 2nd base on a single. Escobar was thrown out at 2nd trying to stretch a single into a double.
First game… first game… things will get better. Right?
Face of the franchise, third baseman Ryan Zimmerman, is still the only unsigned player. Despite not being eligible for arbitration for a while, the Nationals are looking to offer him a multi-year contract. They are meeting with his agent tomorrow. Go Zim, the RZA, Z-Man, whatever your nickname should come to be.
Who won the hottest spring training competition? Bryan hotdogs beat out Ballpark franks. (This is considered breaking news?) I’ll have to try one when I return to spring training in a few weeks.
Today’s game against the ugly Orioles is on MASN. Catch Hall of Famer Don Sutton’s debut as a Nats announcer at 1:05 PM!
P.S. I see ramps!!

Weather report from Viera for today’s opener: Solid overcast, a couple of showers already this morning, 50% chance of rain for the day, and cooling temps (high in mid-60s).
And an excellent chance that thousands of happy fans won’t care about the Wx one little bit. Play Ball!

Ramps are in the stadium, so are stairways. I just got back from the stadium site. It really looks like a stadium! It’s starting to get so built-up that it’s hard to look down into the bowl from the edges. There are three lighting bays installed over the first-base line now.
I’ll post some pictures on my blog in a couple hours.

Well, I’ve been proven wrong twice this week about first babies being late (or induced). Brian Schneider’s daughter was born this morning!!
