Famous for a day! Ultimate Tailgate Experience
May 21, 2007
Wow, that was the coolest ride to a game and tailgating experience ever! My cell phone rang right at noon and it was our Reston Limo driver *chauffer*, John, letting me know he was arriving in our driveway, so I got to yell “our limo is here!” Hee! I haven’t been in a limo since I was a kid and my family took one to the airport, and once I saw the inside of the shiny long white limo in my driveway, realized that childhood ride didn’t even count as I took in the sleek curved bar along the passenger side, leather seats, and awesome mood lighting. First, have a little taste of the video experience…

Talk about your designated driver! John was awesome as he’s a baseball and history buff. He also made a great photographer as we definitely wanted snapshots to remember the experience (and post all over the web, of course). Silly me packed plastic cups in our champagne picnic backpack, which ended up being completely unnecessary. The limo was stocked with champagne flutes, a bin of ice, and napkins all ready for ample use. WFY and his wife, Erica, joined us for this adventure. We all climbed in and eased out of the driveway and were off in the direction of Lot 8 at RFK.
We enjoyed John so much that we never closed the privacy shield except once just to try it out. Buttons and boys, you know! I actually did have something to celebrate - my new job that I’ll start June 4th and I’m very excited about it! The four of us sipped champagne on the way while I rolled down my window and tried to get cars around us, particularly those with occupants wearing Nats caps, to notice us and wave. I was surprised at how little that worked. When I was growing up, it was all you could do to stop from gawking at limos when they went by, wondering what famous person might be inside. Here, the people on the road seemed to be making a conscious effort not to look. Weird.
I was going to enjoy feeling famous whether anyone looked or not. We rolled into lot 8 and found a couple spaces as close to our normal tailgating area as possible. I donned the movie-star sunglasses I dug out of my kids’ toy bins before leaving, and made my grand elegant exit from the limo. Brick stopped by to visit and have a mimosa with us. We tuned the passenger stereo to WTWP and listened to the pre-game show while snacking and chatting.
I felt kinda bad that John was left to sit in the car and listen to the game on the radio (which he did - even comparing the down Orioles broadcasters at the end to the exuberant Nats broadcasters after the win [Photoset]).
We all met up back at the limo for our return trip home after the game. Fritz joined us - plenty of room! Before I knew it, we had returned to normal life. One last photo was posed in front of the “Baseball On The Barn” barn (first one of the season on Saturday!). (p.s. John, if you read this and want to come join us, email me! I’ll even give you a tour of the house)
We quickly determined that we’d like to do this again sometime and that if we had enough people (but not too many so it’s not cramped) to split the cost, it was possible. Although, in the future, we’d probably just do the pickup and tailgate part and then let the limo go so as not to rack up charges for the time during the game and Metro home. Seems doable! But definitely a night game next time as I want to really enjoy the cool lighting inside the limo during the night-time which we caught a glimpse of while going through the tunnel on I-66.
Reston Limo is definitely topping my “favorite companies” list. The CEO is even a blogger herself, keeping her blog up to date on local transportation issues, including wine distribution. A woman after my own heart.
So thank you to Reston Limo for making me feel like a princess and celebrity for a day. That was just too awesome! I feel like my words aren’t even doing it justice. The Nationals winning topped off a perfect day or the ride back may have been a little gloomier.

Hi Kristina,
Whoops! My system caught your comment incorrectly - sorry about the delay publishing. That was truly a neat and very appreciated experience! Great that the Nats won too!
