Mysterious Press Conference at 4:30 PM
August 14, 2007
The Nationals have announced a press conference to be held at 4:30 PM today. That’s it. Nothing else. No details, no clues. Are they going to announce they’ve signed one or two of Josh Smoker and Jack McGeary? The deadline to sign draft picks is nearly upon us. Ooooh, if I were a betting girl… What if they signed both?? I’ll be on my way to the airport and trying to find this covered on the radio on the way!
UPDATE: So there I was in the car at 4:30 flipping between stations (980 and WTWP - the only two I could think of) and neither was talking about anything even close to the Nationals. So I had no idea for sure, although thankfully, I saw Mark Zuckerman’s blog post before I left. Woo! Josh Smoker signed. McGeary, probably not.
Oh, and my XM radio worked great on the airplane. I heard almost the whole game (missed the 9th, but it’s probably better that way). When I put my headphones on and said I was listening to the game, Little Chatter just looked at me and said, “Just don’t start woohooing or anything.” Ha! He knows me so well. I tried to remember that when the Nats scored two runs to break the 0-0 stalemate. It took some stifling though. And oh, when that two run homer put the Phillies ahead after Zimmerman’s throwing error - well, I had to exercise some serious self-restraint. Argh. But how about that Shawn Hill? Awesome.

Perhaps they did the astonishing and managed to trade for some big name that cleared waivers? Nah, we’d never be that lucky. I think I may go with draft signings or a quick reminder that Shawn Hill pitches tonight.

I admit, I giggled at the “quick reminder that Shawn Hill pitches tonight”

After that impressive outing, I have enough courage to take Shawn Hill of my DL. Though now I’m gonna have to look into XM if it works on Airplanes

Awesome!
Yeah, it worked with the car kit. I just used the base and the antenna and shoved the little antenna thing up under the window shade and it worked perfectly the whole time (on a full charge). I was quite happy!
Now if only I could get my slingplayer to connect to my slingbox at home from the hotel (darn proxy issues) so I can watch the rest of the games.
