I went to the Nationals first Winter Tour stop of 2008 yesterday at the Health & Fitness Expo. That Aaron Boone looked far more handsome in person in his jersey than he looked on TV’s Washington Post Live the day before. The Racing Presidents burst out of a curtained room and were as friendly as ever. Teddy was sporting some new running shoes – maybe this will be his year. Unless he was injured in the sensitive area by kids who started beating up on him near the end of the event. I wanted to do the pitch speed-test thing, but I noticed others didn’t believe the readout either. Even Jason Bergmann came over to check it out. I could go today to try, but I think I’ll be busy. The kids participating in the skills clinic were far more interested in hitting and cookbooks than pitching, but they sure were cute! The sound system didn’t work very well, so my ears are still ringing a little from the squealing and straining to hear what people were saying. Charlie Slowes handled it well. I entered the drawing for a Manny Acta autographed jersey (of course!) and when I heard my name announced over the loudspeaker, I nearly jumped out of my skin thinking I’d won! I think I even squealed like the feedback on the speakers while talking to a fan who drove down from New York (hi!). Then I heard “pick up your NBC4 gift bag”. Crash! Oh well, the bag is kinda cool. It came with an Access Hollywood hat – I guess that will become this winter’s hat. Kind of fitting. Heh.
