Look out below! Here I come!

Date March 8, 2008

spring training ticketHallelujah! I no longer have to feel like a fish out of water. I mean, the new stadium ballpark stuff is cool and fun and awesome and all, but I’ve been left jonesing for some real baseball play on the field. One week left and I’ll have it! I’m leaving after work Friday to drive straight down to Melbourne, Florida in order to catch Saturday’s game against the Dodgers, then Sunday I’ll drive the three (?) hours down to Ft. Lauderdale for the Nats/O’s game (which I think is going to be broadcast on MASN), and then return to the universally serving La Quinta Inn, sleep one more night with working high speed internet access (I’m only bitter because my kitschy Cocoa Beach motel with the flaky wireless wouldn’t give me a room for less than 3 nights), catch the Mets game on Monday, then drive home and be back at work on Tuesday.

Expect more pictures and video. Finally!! Baseball! Yay! Hopefully Shawn Hill will be throwing again by the time I get down there and we’ll have more information on injured catchers Lo Duca and Estrada. I’m bummed to hear Tim Redding’s outing today didn’t go too well. Yikes, 6 hits, 5 runs, 2 walks, 1 strikeout! Still, the Nats are winning 10-57 in the sixth, so it may all work out.

You do realize how long it’s going to take to get down to Melbourne, right? Have fun anyhow!

Yeah, I’m nuts. It fits into my whole “winter avoidance” plan! I expected the weather to be warmer when I returned from New Zealand and it’s not, so…! Ha! Actually, I just really missed spring training and this is the only time I can fit it in!

I’m going to check the auto-train fares one way to see if it’s feasible to take it back so I can at least get some sleep before going into work on Tuesday. Blah.

Be safe. I just did the Florida drive between Ft. Lauderdale-Viera-Vero Beach-Tampa and where ever else…

Only 3104 miles later, I am home and sound. It’s about a 15-16 hour to Melbourne unless you’ve got a lead foot.

Thanks, Anthony! I’ll be safe (I hope! After last year, I’m not sure saying that actually makes it true).

Wow, hope you had a great trip! I debated going to Tampa because I have friends over there, but I think I’ll skip it. That’s enough driving for one weekend.
