There was a joke Dmitri Young gave birth

Date April 12, 2008

Dmitri Young - Inside PitchI can’t remember which blog it was on… so you’ll have to just go with me on this one. Well, he admits he had an epidural to try to ease his lower back pain that currently has him on the disabled list. I’m no doctor, but the only reason I’ve ever had one (two), was to bring my feisty children into the world (who currently feel rather ignored by my attentiveness to this baseball team now at 3-9-in-a-row). Now, I’m not picking on Dmitri and am quite happy to see him speak out candidly. I don’t know if Chris counts as ‘media’, but Young seems to be speaking to him:

A few days after being placed on the disabled list, Nationals first baseman Dmitri Young said he is upset that people in the media are insensitive about the way he looks in a baseball uniform. […] “Everybody is stressing on the weight, weight, weight. And that is what is wrong with the world today. Everybody has to be a beanpole. If everybody looked like that, it would be a weird-looking place.” –Dmitri Young

You go, man! Speaking of Young, the last free copy of Inside Pitch I picked up at a game has an awesome photo of Dmitri with his black fingernails displayed prominently (and hugely) on the contents page. I wanna know what kind of lens magnifies the hands? Or is it a Photoshop thing?

A positive! Matt Chico rocked last night against the Braves, pitching right along with Tim Hudson and also completing 8 full innings while allowing only one run. I have nothing to complain about with his start. Despite the fact that it was the 8th loss in a row, I was pleased with the outing. So pleased, that I won’t mention Jon Rauch giving up two more runs in the top of the 9th since we were already losing by one run and our offense did nothing. Go Chico!

Today, John Lannan wasn’t so fortunate in his start, starting out the game allowing four runs in the first inning. In fact, Jason Bergmann ended up relieving him. Hmmm…. does that mean Bergmann’s been switched to the bullpen after his last awful outing? Or… my money’s on him getting demoted when Cordero or Hill returns. It’ll be interesting to see what happens as Cordero, Hill, and Wily Mo return. The 10-2 loss was hard to pay attention to.

Johnny Estrada wears fake stirrups? Now that’s a weird-looking thing!

It just occurred to me that the 17 feet closer commercials are not filmed in the new clubhouse in Nationals Park!

Chauffeuring the Geico Gecko was a hoot, even if it rained a bit! [Photoset] I’ll be at tomorrow’s game, so hopefully back to normal photosets. One of my opening day photos was featured in the Flickr Blog! Wow, now that was an honor! (thanks to WFY for pointing it out)

Oooh - they’re talking about roster moves in the post-game show… gotta pay attention! Oops, yes, they said Bergmann is going to Columbus.
