Wow, I had no idea
April 15, 2008
Ah, time for some perspective. Chartese Burnett is the vice president of communications for the Nationals and a very nice woman. I’ve seen her many times over the last couple years and she’s always been warm and welcoming. What I didn’t know is that she is also a cancer survivor, having been diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma with an eggplant sized inoperable tumor in her chest. After completing radiation, she was declared cancer-free, thank goodness. She has since made it her mission to help create happy endings for those lives touched by blood cancer and has been very active in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. She is now embarking on her most challenging fundraising endeavor.
Ms. Burnett has been nominated to be a candidate for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Woman of the Year fundraising competition. She is only one of 18 candidates (9 women) vying for the title in the Washington, DC area. Her goal is to raise $170,000 in the next ten weeks, ending June 14, 2008. All donations are tax-deductible and must be received by June 13th.
