Shawn Hill has been activated from the disabled list, trading places with catcher Paul Lo Duca, and will start tonight’s game against a Marlins rookie. Considering John Lannan and Tim Redding had back-to-back nights of career high strikeouts in a game (11 for Lannan and 10 for Redding), maybe three’s a charm? I’m definitely hoping Hill still has his stuff and will stick around the rest of the season. He says he thinks he can still pitch 30 games.
I thought I was reading FanHouse or Deadspin when I ran across this article about Dmitri Young getting his distracting hair cut at manager Manny Acta’s request. Nope, it’s a real MLB.com article!
Nationals manager Manny Acta, concerned that injured infielder Dmitri Young’s big, curly Afro was becoming too much of a distraction, told the injured first baseman after Thursday night’s loss to the Mets to have his hair cut before he showed up for Friday night’s game here.
Heh. But no worries, the request wasn’t “sinister”!
So how about last night’s game?! Another lineup shakeup and my-oh-my a win! Given the gorgeous night (which I hear was warmer than in South Florida), we watched the game outside on the barn. Had to test out the equipment after winter before the official barn viewing begins! Sweet! I was echoing Austin Kearns’s quotes live during the game.
“It’s just like, ‘Yeah!’ ” right fielder Austin Kearns said. “It’s like, ‘There it is!’ “
Although, all my cheering and hooting and hollering was drawing blushes from my husband, worried the neighbors (who weren’t watching with us) would be annoyed and wonder what all the yelling was about.
It was about a win 6-4! A loaded bases clearing double by Nick Johnson! (look ma! hitting with runners in scoring position) A career high ten strikeouts by Tim Redding! Hits by Felipe Lopez in the leadoff spot! All our pitchers earned honors – Redding with the win, Ayala and King with holds, and Jon Rauch earned the save.
That was refreshing. Now, let’s keep this momentum going!
