Early Game – More Booboos

Nick Johnson

Well, dang. Nick Johnson, finally back from his broken leg injury, is out again with an ailing wrist. Hopefully it’s nothing big and he’ll be back in no time [update below]. He’s in DC getting an MRI today. I know his injury history doesn’t bode well, but I try to look at each injury like an individual case. Just cuz someone broke his cheekbone once (among other things), doesn’t mean he’s going to be repeatedly on the DL. Right?

And more stuff I missed – Mike O’Connor was only given that one start despite comments that pitchers aren’t judged on one start alone and he’d get another chance. He wasn’t given another chance and was sent back down to the minors. Chris Schroder was called up for bullpen help, but was sent back down this morning (although I doubt it’s performance related). Jason Bergmann was called up to start today’s 1:10 PM game in New York, leaving Matt Chico in the bullpen. Whew, follow all that?

Dmitri Young is currently rehabbing with the Harrisburg Senators and buying them nice spreads of post-game food. Cute! Aaron Boone will start at first base while Nick’s out. When Dmitri’s ready, it’ll be interesting to see what roster juggling takes place (provided Nick doesn’t go/stay on the DL long).

UPDATE: Ack!!! Johnson out 4-6 weeks with a torn tendon sheath (whatever that is) in his right wrist! It’s amazing how quickly the status of things can change because now the rest of this post needs revising, but I’m not going to! Dmitri Young comes back tomorrow to take Nick’s place, no corresponding move is necessary since Nick was placed on the 15 day DL.
