The sky got its green on
June 4, 2008
Thanks to the afternoon storms that ripped through the area this afternoon including a tornado touchdown in Falls Church, it took me an hour to go five miles to pick up Little Chatter at school, barely making it before the cutoff. Roads were closed, stoplights were out, the rain began again forcing me to pull over and put my top up, yadda yadda. My cell phone could call out, but the data functions (like checking radar) weren’t working on the Edge network. Apparently Mr. Chatter wasn’t getting my calls and I wasn’t getting his while we both battled detours and backups to pick up the kids trying to beat the daycare cutoff time and meet the babysitter at our house. Our street was closed. Cars blocked intersections and backed up for miles, so trying to cross major streets took several light cycles. I arrived home to find a large tree at the end of my driveway flopped over pulling a sheath of grass with it (but no root ball, weirdly). The hole left where the tree had been looked like a mudpool. I’ll have photos later, of course! Branches littered the yard and other side of the driveway. A tree in the neighbors yard in a direct line with ours also fell over, blocking the street in front of their house.
Mr. Chatter’s computer server crashed and wouldn’t come back up. Our generator light is blinking an error. Blah! I got the server back up and now as tornadoes pound the metro area, we’re debating if it’s even worth it to go to the game. Will they call it at 9 PM? Are the roads still closed and blocked? I hear stoplights are still out.
So at this point, looks like we’ll miss the game. *sigh* At least there’s still Ladies Night tomorrow! My green clothes are soaked.

I hope you didn’t make the trip! Let’s hope the weather holds out for the all-too-rare doubleheader tomorrow.

Nope, didn’t go! I was too wiped out after battling traffic and fretting over the fallen trees. Plus, I looked at radar and saw another whopper coming, so I’m glad it was finally postponed. Now I just have to figure out if I can take tomorrow afternoon off from work! I was planning on working from home for the afternoon to do some training anyway, but now… ??
