Wednesday Night Baseball-Themed Movies

Date June 7, 2008

Capitol Riverfront Field of Dreams screening

Walking back to my car parked in a cash lot I was thrilled to discover Thursday evening as opposed to driving to RFK and catching a bus between games, I cut through the Capitol Riverfront area with the masses of fans heading to the Nats Express buses. I halted in my tracks when I spotted “Field of Dreams” on a giant HDTV set up right there in front of one of my favorite historic buildings in the area. (Show-offs! I use a projector on an historic barn while they have all new crystal clear technology!) Most people kept walking, but a few were seated in front of the screen watching the movie.

As it turns out, they’re doing this “Riverfront Reel” every Wednesday night throughout the summer and I happened to catch sight of it on the debut night. The movies are presented by Capitol Riverfront, ASG Events, and MASN. At 6:30 PM the area opens (free) to the public with an inflatable baseball themed interactive game, snacks, beverages, and music. At 7:30, you can “Play Ball” on a Wii on that giant screen (woo! gonna have to try that one!). At 8:50 PM the movie begins. The screen is set up on block south of the New Jersey entrance to the Navy Yard Metro just past the end of the DOT building.
