Mets fire Manager Willie Randolph

Filed under: Baseball - General, MLB, Washington Nationals — misschatter at 8:52 am on Tuesday, June 17, 2008

I know this isn’t Nationals news, but considering Manager Manny Acta worked for the guy, it’s kind of tied in. The Mets allowed Randolph to fly to the west coast for one game (that the Mets won) and then fired him. Wow. It’s not like we didn’t see this coming with all the rumors flying all season, but still, wow. Pitching coach Rick Peterson and first base coach Tom Nieto were also dumped in the house cleaning that took place around 3 AM (!!). Or at least that’s when it was announced.

I mean, that’d be like if I found out half the people I worked with at my old job got fired recently. I care about them a lot and even though I’m not there anymore, I still feel a connection. First I’d be shocked and saddened for them, worried about their futures. Then I’d be wondering if I would have been included in the firing line or up for a promotion.
