Nick Johnson Can’t Catch a Break

I eagerly anticipated Nick Johnson’s triumphant return this season from the leg injury that kept him out all of last season. He appeared completely healed, in shape, and ready to reclaim his role as the more nimble slick-fielding first baseman. That all changed with one bad swing of the bat and now it looks like Nick may be out the rest of the season, a terrible shame. He’ll undergo arthroscopic surgery today at the Mayo Clinic in Minneapolis to see why his wrist is still bothering him and fix any damage they find. More information will be available later today after the surgery.

I have a nagging feeling, that I hope is just alarmism, that Ryan Zimmerman will be out the rest of the season as well. Losing the two of them plus Austin Kearns and Chad Cordero has to have hurt the team and record this year.
