Battle of the Birds
June 25, 2008
The longer you blog, the more PR firm email lists you end up on. At least, my experience would lend to that theory. So here you go, if you are interested in watching the hulky Oriole Bird in a light-hearted competition with the bobble-bellied Screech, head to ESPN Zone to fulfill your wildest dreams Friday from 4-5 PM. I can take a guess as to which bird will come out triumphant (just looking at the physique), and I fear the series will probably follow the same path. (One can of course hope not and still root for the team of their choosing, but statistics are leaning in the bummer direction). Okay, so maybe I’m still down after the last couple weeks of losses and injuries and am having difficulty retaining my usually sunny optimistic outlook!
Details:
This Friday, in conjunction with the weekend’s series between the Nationals and the Orioles at
Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium[ed. corr.] Nationals Park, the Orioles’ Bird will take on the Nationals’ eagle mascot (Screech) in ESPN Zone’s second leg of the “Battle of the Birds.”This light-hearted depiction of the ever-increasing cross-town rivalry will take place June 27 from 4-5 p.m. at ESPN Zone in DC. The Bird and Screech will compete in a series of challenges including: horse races, tug-o-war, arm wrestling, basketball free-throw shooting, and an egg race. After the contests, the birds will be available for autograph signing and photographs.
Go Screech! Show the world what a macho bird you really are inside all that feathery fluff.

“Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium?” Did the Nats name the new park without telling anyone? Or did they simply cut-n-paste last year’s press release without bothering to edit it? Or did DC evict them from the new park for fraud? — i.e. the lease specified that a Major League team would be playing its home games there.

Ha! That’s from ESPN’s PR firm, not the Nats - looks like they copied and pasted from last year’s. Good eye. I didn’t even catch that!

Heh, I emailed the guy back the correction. He said, “Ugh, obviously. And to think I wrote that a week after sitting in Nationals Park. Sorry about that… ” :-)
