Elijah Dukes out 4-6 weeks
July 6, 2008

Washington Nationals right fielder Austin Kearns, right, watches as left fielder Elijah Dukes is carted from the field after Dukes was hurt at the wall catching a fly ball from Cincinnati Reds Jay Bruce in the seventh inning of a baseball game, Saturday, July 5, 2008 in Cincinnati. Wow, that stunk. There are three good things I can say about last night’s game:
- Watching in good company,
- Seeing Colleen and her husband shown on tv several times as the token Nats fans in the Reds’ stadium.
- A pitcher taking offense into his own hands when Tim Redding hit an RBI to help himself.
The low-scoring tied game was blown in the final innings, but more importantly, the Nationals lost a contributing member to injuries… again. Elijah Dukes tore the meniscus and partially tore the patella in his knee making a catch at the track. No one wants to see a player go down like that. “Snake-bitten” ballclub is the word they used on the television broadcast. No doubt.

Glad we could have some “bang, zoom” at BBoB even if the team couldn’t provide it.
