Now that’ a phrase I never expected to utter. I listen to music all the time. I listen while on my computer on my porch at home while sipping coffee in the morning. I listen to XM at work all day. In the car I listen to XM or CDs. On my bike, I also typically listen to music until I get sick of my playlists and stare blankly at my iTunes screen looking for anything that sparks my interest. Last week I tried something new and listened to a podcast “On the DL” (not the naughty site) interview featuring Jamie Mottram of Mr. Irrelevant and Dan Steinberg from the DC Sports Bog — both formerly of the Blog Show on Comcast SportsNet’s Washington Post Live. The interview was actually an hour long, so I was able to split it up between the commute in and home and it was fantastic — not only the content that had me cracking up in spots, prompting passersby to smile back (while wondering if I was a lunatic), but the fact that I could listen to an hour long podcast and actually pay attention to it.
There were two funnies – Jamie admitted in it that he listens to podcasts while running; and I heard this while biking and doing the same thing. Totally understood where he was coming from;
The other was umm… crud, I forgot. As did Steinberg about the interview being scheduled, but at least he was available even if while taking out his garbage.
[Don't you hate it when you have a great idea on the tip of your fingertips, but by the time you type of the lead-in, you forget what it was?! It was brilliant, but you'll just have to trust me on this.]
So the whole experience gave me an idea – why not find more sportsy podcasts to listen to on the commute to keep my focus off my aching legs and on the new conversations and news I’m listening to instead of tuning out songs I’ve heard a million times before. Anyone have any suggestions?
In the meantime, I found the complete audio of the 2008 opening day Nationals-Braves game in my iTunes library and synched that up for some happy listening. Since I was at the game, I never heard the radio calls. Three hours worth ought to last me all week until I come up with some new subscriptions!

I hope you get some good responses here, because I’ve been wondering the same thing. I have recently discovered the AP Inside Baseball podcast, which is pretty good — but only if you’re prepared to turn the volume up or down based on who’s talking.
I also discovered an ESPN podcast — I think it was called Baseball Today? — and promptly undiscovered it. Pure dreck.
I just listened to a podcast from http://www.natscast.com on my lunch break and enjoyed it. Might be something else for you to check out in your non-music quest. :-)
Thanks to both of you! Hopefully we’ll get more responses! I’ve added those two to my downloads….
