The t-shirt made me cry; Nats win!

Date September 24, 2008

[Photoset] But Shairon Martis certainly did not make me cry, earning his first major league win and face-pie! For the second Tuesday in a row, and the first two times all season, Mr. Chatter and I actually scored t-shirts. On the back of the last “T-shirt Tuesday” it says something about the Final Homestand and “Last Person Out Turn Off The Lights”. *sniff sniff* Oh, but I was on the jumbotron for the first time ever doing the t-shirt wave! (and looking completely dorky bopping to the music and waving at the same time)

The Nationals actually managed to eliminate the Fish from contention last night as 80s music got us bopping in between innings. I’m not sure if it’s always been 80s music and I just noticed it in particular last night, or if this was a new thing. Either way, being a child of the 80s (at least for my formative years – when I really started liking music), I enjoyed it. Just like I can tell you when Pete Orr is coming in to pinch hit to Intergalactic…

I’ve been corrected again on the proper pronunciation of Martis (mar-tiss), so I give up. I actually saw his parents last night and should have thought to ask, but I’m sure my latest source is accurate as he’s very careful about such things. So the broadcasters have it right and apparently Luke Montz is wrong. That topic is now closed… so moving on…

Congrats to Shairon! Great job by the rest of the pitchers as well. Hinckley continued his streak of not being scored upon for two more innings. Impressive! Willie Harris and Roger Bernadina, who drew a walk as a pinch hitter, managed a successful double steal in the bottom of the 8th and later scored two of the four cushion runs the Nats collected that inning. Exciting! Despite the six run lead, Joel Hanrahan came in to finish off the game, only allowing a solo home run to Cody Ross and striking out Jeremy Hermida to end the game with a Nationals 9-4 win.

Do read the captions on the photos (there’s an option inside the slideshow if that’s how you view them) as it gives the game story, which I’m not going to rehash here. I’d love to copy and paste the gamer from the Times or Post and then just link the photos in where relevant, but that would be against copyright law, I’m sure!

Two more days of this crazy schedule!
