Deja Vu All Over Again

Somehow I got a flashback to nearly 2 years ago when the Nationals former 40+HR slugger Alfonso Soriano was contemplating his Free Agency plans, and there were reports of how he hoped to stay in Washington….

….then I read Mark Teixeira is interested in playing for the Nats….
Teixeira interested in playing for Nats | nationals.com: News
….so I wake up from this dream and know that Alfonso Soriano never seemed to me to take any negotiations with Washington seriously and he of course is playing in Chicago, and if we were going to take bets on where Teixeira will be my bet would be on the NY Yankees as Scott Boras is his agent and the Yankees need a 1st baseman and they have LOTS OF MONEY.
On November 1st, I wrote in this Blog about getting the slugger with no hype.
Just A Nats Fan » Ticket Hype vs. Winning Games
Throwing some names in the hat of big hitting lefties that (possibly) could be available are Adam Dunn, Adrian Gonzalez, Prince Fielder and Jack Cust. From the right side, power in Carlos Lee and Pat Burrell. The problem with most of these names is that they realistically can only be obtained via trades since they are all under contract with their current team (except Dunn and Burrell) hence the Nats would have to give up player(s) to get one of them.
I didn’t even mention Teixeira in that particular Blog entry (I did on another) as I saw the chance so remote (and still do regardless of articles that give hope), and I hope I am wrong and the Nationals can somehow sign him, but the names I still see in the mix are Adam Dunn, Adrian Gonzalez, Jack Cust, and Pat Burrell. Out of these 4 names, I would rate Adrian Gonzalez the best with his 36 HRs and 119 RBIs as he was also a 2008 All Star and Gold Glove winner. The Padres have been trying to trade 2007 Cy Young Jake Peavy with little success so would they consider trading Adrian Gonzalez like I wrote almost 3 weeks ago?
Other Free Agent possibilities still brewing are the O Dawg, Orlando Hudson as a potential 2nd baseman, and grabbing a top reliever.
In other news, congrats to John Lannan on Topps choosing him as their NL Rookie All-Star team pitcher.

Boras and his clients do themselves well by hyping the “demand” side as the more potential bidders means generally better contract offers so last night ESPN interviews Teixeira and he says he wants to go where he can win and makes no mention of the Nationals.
“I don’t want to put a timetable on it, but Christmas morning, I want to know where I’m going to be for the next couple of years, so hopefully, by Christmas it will be done,” Teixeira told ESPN sideline reporter Erin Andrews during the Miami/Georgia Tech football game in Atlanta on Thursday. “I want to go where I can win and my family is happy,” Teixeira said. “Whether it’s the East Coast — that’s where I’m from — but I loved playing in Anaheim, too, so we’ll see what happens.”
