Now that Thanksgiving is over, team owners, GM’s and other front office personnel will pack their luggage and leave next week for Baseball’s Winter Meetings which will be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center & The Las Vegas Hilton, December 8 – 11.
Expect some trades to be finalized and some Free Agent signings. San Diego’s group led by Kevin Towers will again be trying to highlight a trade for ‘07 Cy Young winner Jake Peavy. Nat’s GM Jim Bowden has usually made a splash after Thanksgiving and sometimes hasn’t waited for the leftovers to get cold. Last year, JimBo pulled off the Milledge/Church/Schneider deal on November 30th.
Looking at the Nats after the Willingham trade, I would expect the Nats to try to move 1 outfielder and now that the cat is out of the bag Nick Johnson most likely will be packaged in a trade. Then when you least expect it, Jim Bowden will probably surprise you like he did when Brian Schneider was included in that trade with the Mets last year.
In related news, the national Baseball Trade Show will also be in the Las Vegas Convention Center with over 200 exhibitors trying to catch the eye of marketers and decision makers. The list is extensive:
