Oh Gosh! More on Facebook
December 4, 2008
I kind of glossed over the whole “Facebook as a way to market yourself” thing in my last post. And Oh my goodness! How could I forget to mention the fact that an Official Joel Hanrahan Fan Club group popped up over the last couple weeks and now has 120 members. I was quite surprised when I first noticed it, but happily so! It looks like his brother (?) is active there, although no sign of Joel himself. There’s a very cute picture of him with his mom.
Also, Teddy Roosevelt, that lovable giant-headed race loser is also on Facebook and quite active. (and check out his profile photo – [wiggles eyebrows]). It gives the mascot the chance to show a personality.
I think Facebook can also be a great way to promote charities that are near and dear to one’s heart. I mentioned Andy Baldwin in the last post, and I must say he is highly active in charities and even created his own page to promote them (on which he interacts with everyone). He is definitely a shining example of how high profile people can use Facebook – and not in the corporate marketing way but in the true heartfelt way. He takes the time to reply to comments on his statuses and talks about things like running marathons in addition to charitable visits, fundraisers, and work stuff. Ryan Zimmerman could promote his ziMS Foundation in much the same way there if he let himself be out there a little more and created a page for it. In my non-marketing unprofessional opinion, he is his own best marketing tool. Heck, I even set up a page for the lighthouse! (You too can become a fan!).
So I guess it’ll be interesting to see if any of our local guys take advantage of some of these and become more interactive.
On that note, now I’m going to go fret that Ryan hated the photograph he was presented today. I went through my first hard lesson in printing photographs. Turns out they don’t always come out looking as good as they appear on the screen on the first try!
Now back to your regularly scheduled free-agent watch…

Hey!
This is going to seem like an strange request but you were at the same Everclear show as i was in Virginia in 2003. You took a couple photos of a bunch of fans on stage and i happened to be one of them. I was hoping to find it on your site but you dont have archives back that far. If you could send me the images that would be incredible.
Thanks!
Courtney
