Fick-talian?!

I spent yesterday morning planning our spring training jaunt to Florida for the first week of March. We didn’t really have much choice on the date while working around our timeshare schedule limitations. This will be the first time we’ve used a timeshare – and not even at the resort we were suckered into the purchase (Massanutten). Now that I see the flexibility in getting to stay elsewhere, I’m thinking maybe it wasn’t such a bad idea after all. On the other hand, we already use all our vacation time to visit family and stuff that we have little left over to use for fun. Ask me again about timeshares after the trip.
So back to the date thing… the first week of March isn’t ideal for spring training visits, IMO. My preferred time to go is before the actual games begin — or at least overlap a few days of workouts only with the first games of the Grapefruit League season. Players are more relaxed and accessible during that time, which naturally leads to more up-close photos and video opportunities!
When I first looked at the Nats ST schedule for the first week of March I was bummed to see there’s an off day. The optimistic side of me is hoping that means a full workout day and not literally “off” so I can pretend the games haven’t started yet as I will be trekking to Viera for the first time of the trip that day. The very next day is a game against Italy. The first time I saw that, I thought, “huh?” Apparently teams are holding exhibition games against World Baseball Classic teams. And hey, guess who’s on the provisional roster for Italy? None other than Robert Fick! And my favorite mustachiod catcher, Sal Fasano. This might turn out more exciting than I expected!
We ended up with seats right behind the plate (and net) for the Italy game, so I guess it hasn’t sold out yet. I still wish the online purchase thing would give the option of selecting different seats in the same price level. To me, behind the net is NOT “best available”! Oh well. I’ll work with what I’ve been given. Less than two weeks to go!

Section 211 behind plate are some of the best seats in the stadium. Good view, and right in front of the press box

I hate that “best available” feature, too. Fortunately, I’m lucky to have the option to go over to the box office and hand-pick seats. Going to workouts this Saturday. Hope you have good weather for your visit.

Thanks for the insight, Randy! RocketMike! Long time no see. I’m excited there’s a rocket launch scheduled for during our visit :-) Enjoy workouts Saturday!
