The Legend Of Joe Beimel
May 3, 2009
(Funnily enough, one of my photos from last night’s gala is already on YouTube and I haven’t even posted the set here yet!)
Last night, I introduced myself as a blogger (without even stuttering it out for once) and photographer to Joe Beimel and his gorgeous girlfriend Carley at the Washington Nationals Dream Foundation Gala. Instead of polite smiles and head nods (like I got from Phil Wood later after the same type of intro), they were full of effusive smiles and chatter. That’s how I learned of the Legend of Joe Beimel. A YouTuber who goes by the monicker “troyfromwestvirginia” has started a Joe Beimel cult of sorts. Above is his most recent entry. They seemed quite honored to have so much attention from a fan. I thought all the hours and work “troy” puts into his project is either impressive or creepy – not sure which! I do have to say the movement to get the Dodgers to giveaway a Joe Beimel bobblehead is impressive. Color me intrigued!
Beimel was also eager to see the photo I took of his impressive defensive play that sent him to the DL, but we didn’t, you know, exchange digits or email addies, so I’m not sure how to pass it on. I told him we’re eager to have him back and he said he can’t wait to be back either. Just hope he got that nasty stuff out of his system with Potomac!
We have a cult hero! Too cool! But what’s with the robe? And I have to love the #97 – it’s the year Little Chatter was born. [Follow up posted over at DC Sports Bog]
