Season of Heartbreak

Jordan Zimmermann's first MLB pitch

From the firing of Manny Acta to Tommy John surgery on Jordan Zimmermann, this has been a rough season and there’s still time to go. Maybe it’s time I step back and not get so involved because I’m beginning to think I’m a curse.

The news of rookie Jordan Zimmermann’s elbow was especially hard to take and I honestly felt heartbroken. A star was born on a rainy night this season, and before the season ends he’s heading to the operating table. I watched and was impressed by him in spring training, was present at his first MLB start on a rainy night, snapped my first MLB licensed photo of him during that start. All was good. He was profiled with Ryan Zimmerman in Washingtonian, and brought his midwestern down-to-earthness to fans at an ESPN Zone Q&A. The future was so bright!

And I realize the future can still be bright, but the lights aren’t getting turned back on for a while. TJ surgery will keep Jordan out for 12-18 months. He likely won’t be on the mound for the Nats next season, so 2012 2011? I wish Jordan the best of luck with surgery and rehab and will keep my fingers crossed he returns as strong as ever.

Now, about that #1 draft prospect. What’s-his-name? Strasburg…..
