No day of rest on Sunday – Multitasking!

MASN chat with Ben Goessling on left screen, Strasburg start on left of right screen, Nats vs Mets on right of right screen. Outside on the porch.

Yep, I spent my beautiful Sunday afternoon glued to the computer screen, but at least I can say I was outside! Nats won 5-2 against the Mets with Livo and Willingham winning players of the game in my book.

Willingham’s home run had to be reviewed via instant replay by the umps due to the funky architecture of new Citi Field before being ruled a grand slam in the first inning. Before the review, he was actually tagged out at the plate after clearing the bases.

Livo!! I never (ahem) doubted the re-signing of Livan Hernandez. I honestly was thrilled he was signed during the off-season, although I was skeptical he still had much in the tank. I have guilt for ever entertaining such doubtful thoughts now. He lasted longer than any Nats starter so far this season, throwing 7 innings of shutout ball.

FIGHT!! K-Rod plunked Willie Harris (whether intentional or not) and then got mad at Harris. There are rules about hitters rushing the mound, but apparently none about pitchers rushing hitters they just plunked. Benches cleared. Total awesomeness. No brawls broke out, though.

Stephen Strasburg made his professional debut against the Altoona Curve and pitched 5 innings with 1 earned run (but 4 runs total). He hit 100 a couple times on the radar gun (once against the poor opposing pitcher!), while most of his fastballs consistently clocked in at 99 mph. While speed isn’t everything, he’s still fun to watch! The game was broadcast partially on ESPN News and streamed live (with issues) on mlb.com. The backflips from a mascot were impressive! Ok, so was Strasburg, but not as lights-out as one would expect, although much of that was due to defense. I suppose he can’t just strike every batter out and run a two man game in the field (cuz, ya know, he kinda needs a catcher).
