Don’t watch movies near trade deadline

Posted on July 29, 2010 at 11:05 pm

Lesson learned. Do not step away when the trade deadline is near. With the day game over and my post up on CSN, I thought I’d settle in to watch TV with my husband for a rare night that doesn’t revolve around a game, a live chat, blogging or social media. I peeled myself away from Twitter and Facebook and settled into the leather lounger in the basement to watch a recorded HBO special on Ted Williams. Ok, so it was still baseball! Life was good. I noticed Williams’ facial features followed him throughout his life and all I could think about was Alcor employees batting his head around at the end. Anyway…

I returned to Twitter before heading to bed where I caught wind Matt Capps was traded in my absence. Whoa! What? Now my last memory of him will forever be of him sitting by himself in front of his locker in the clubhouse with his arm in a massive wrap after saving the game (and series) against the Braves. Media interviewed Scott Olsen after his impressive return from the DL, then moved on to Batista in light of Miss Iowa’s ceremonial first pitch. But Matt Capps? Sat alone. The last strains of “Final Countdown” had barely stopped echoing throughout the stands.
Capps was traded to the Twins in return for catcher Wilson Ramos and prospect LHP Joe Testa. Does this mean the team has given up on Jesus Flores? Lemme shed another tear! In the meantime, it looks like Drew Storen may bump up into the closer role for the remainder of the season.

Ok, NOW I’m heading to bed… There’s a boat up for auction that would be perfect for the lighthouse and the auction ends in the morning, so I have to get up early!
