Scoresheet of 2011 Opening Day reveals odd phenomenon

With the kick-off of a new season (I'll get to my "Yay! Opening Day!" post when I recover from road rage and frozen numbness), it seems as good a time as any to revisit my baseball scoring system, since I know there are geeks out there who dig this kind of thing (you know who you are!). It's fun to review this every now and then as my system has morphed from season to season. This year I've moved off ... Continue Reading

iScore – iPhone baseball scoring app

Breaking news has moved to Twitter (and so have I for the most part), print paper is dying, so they say, and well, scoring baseball games is headed in that direction as well. [Click image for huge view - hit 'c' to close] I showed my shiny newly-bound unused custom scorebook to Bob Carpenter prior to the first game at Nationals Park and he seemed mostly disappointed I wasn't using his. I conceded that his is smaller and fits in my bag better, but for me to match plays to photographs, this works so much better for me. I'm a linear chronological kind of person, I guess. I tend to forget to move ... Continue Reading

Prep for the weekend

With the new season about to start, I guess I should figure out what to do about my scorebook this season. I had enough pages of my custom system left for spring training, but that supply is now drained. It's also not a perfect system since it requires turning pages after about the fifth or sixth inning. Maybe if I can stomach going to a larger (8.5 x 11) format, I can fit it all on one page. On the ... Continue Reading
