Some excitement!

Posted on August 26, 2010 at 3:35 pm

Bryce Harper is taking batting practice at Nats Park as we speak, prior to his introductory press conference. Sadly, I'm not there with my camera! But by the sounds of it, he's popping balls out of the park and definitely giving fans something positive to look forward to! On the mound tonight will be Jordan Zimmermann in his first MLB start since Tommy John surgery last August. That's a pretty quick (just over 12 months) recovery. Can't wait to see what ... So How Old Is El Duque Really?

Posted on August 11, 2010 at 6:21 pm

The facts are a little confusing. The true age of ballplayers from other countries is often viewed with suspicion, but generally the ballplayer sticks to one date and that's what pops up in all articles and stat pages. Yet in the past two days, I've seen Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez's age listed in articles and elsewhere as both 40 and 44. How can this be? Nationals promote El Duque to Double-A Hernandez, 40, is 90-65 with a 3.72 ERA in nine ... Continue Reading

Dunn Still A Nat

Posted on July 31, 2010 at 4:06 pm

You won't hear the PA announce "Guuuzzzzmannn" anymore as Cristian Guzman was traded to the Rangers. And the Clipp n Save phrase no longer includes Capps, who was traded to the Twins (yet any closer getting saves could still fit the bill there if Clippard remains in the setup role). However, you will still hear "Adaaaamm DUNN!" reverberate around the stadium. The 4 PM trade deadline has come and gone and it looks like Dunn will remain in tonight's lineup ... Continue Reading

Don’t watch movies near trade deadline

Posted on July 29, 2010 at 11:05 pm

Lesson learned. Do not step away when the trade deadline is near. With the day game over and my post up on CSN, I thought I'd settle in to watch TV with my husband for a rare night that doesn't revolve around a game, a live chat, blogging or social media. I peeled myself away from Twitter and Facebook and settled into the leather lounger in the basement to watch a recorded HBO special on Ted Williams. Ok, so it ... Continue Reading

Miguel Batista To Face Miss Iowa’s Fastball

Posted on July 29, 2010 at 7:06 pm

If you think the Miguel Batista vs. Miss Iowa story is huge here, just imagine the enormity of it in Iowa! I was invited to chat for a few minutes on Iowa's KXNO sports radio show with host Keith Murphy this afternoon. Thanks to that, the mystery of the two Miss Iowas on Twitter has been solved. Apparently both are legit, but only one, Katherine (Katie) Connors, whose retort and challenge to Batista was in the Des Moines Register blog ... Continue Reading
