I’m so glad I fell asleep during the bottom of the first inning of last night’s game against the recurring Jambino! (Aww Jamey, we still miss ya!) It sounds like it was painful to watch, and might have made someone suicidal if they stayed awake til 2 AM to endure the heartache that was the bottom of the 8th inning. Therefore, I’ll just live in my fantasy world where last night’s game didn’t take place for a little while. Instead, on to more fun topics like fantasy football and happy hours!
Help! Akismet is catching a regular comment as spam!
Don’t worry, if you see a regular comment on your Akismet page, just click the “Not Spam” checkbox and submit and the comment will be sent back to Akismet as a mistake. The system will learn from your submission, though it may take a day or so in some cases. False positives, as they’re called, are extremely rare and we watch them closely.
I use Akismet as a comment spam catcher on this site, which thankfully has blocked over 3,000 ads for drugs none of us need (and porn, and…). Unforunately, over the last couple days it has tagged a few real comments as spam for some reason. I’m watching my spam queue a little more closely now and if you don’t see your comment right away, I should catch it eventually and mark it as “not spam”. If it doesn’t show up, please email me and let me know (email addy is in the ‘about’ page). Sorry about that!!
If anyone subscribes to the podcast category feed here (through iTunes or a newsreader), you probably got some weird hits recently. I was testing a new plugin by turning some of the videos I’ve clipped into embedded “video casts” and then tagged them to make sure it worked right. Obviously, they’re not really pod or video casts in the traditional sense, so feel free to ignore. But watch for another new feature I’ll probably try twice and can… coming soon!
Last night was the first night I watched the Olympics so far. Although, judging from The Daily Show, the opening ceremonies were quite the sight (Click Five Ring Circus – 2nd row 2nd video)! I just kept forgetting (24!) to watch until last night after I caught up with my DVR’d Desperate Housewives.
I saw Johnny Weir’s interview and short program skate. He’s more of a princess than I am! I don’t know how he can claim he isn’t a “diva”. Beautiful eyes, though. Anyway, after that we turned to the 500m women’s speed skating. I was thinking blah. Don’t get me wrong, I do find speed skating mildly interesting, mainly because when I was a kid, my grandfather had a poster of Eric Heiden and his sister, Beth, on the wall in his basement (and said he had met him or knew his father or something), which I found inspiring. Hey, I just read he became a cyclist too!
As the 2nd pair lined up, the announcers went on about how the Russian, Svetlana Zhurova, was a mother. I perked up – cool! A woman who has given birth, raised a child to toddler, and is still an athlete and competing in the Olympics a mere two years later! She also smoked the competition! Now, that is inspiring!
I’d like to further expand the DC Wire posting on Barry’s Nats Cap, and add that it appears to be an authentic cap now (or at least during the Feb 7th legislative session as opposed to the December 13th session). Mr. Barry got a lot of flack in the Nat(m)osphere for his street-corner vendor cap after the 12/13 session, and possibly he was made aware of it? Because the cap worn last Tuesday was significantly different. No more white doo-hickeys. Continue reading Barry’s Nats Cap, addendum
