Hurricane Blog

Well, I started this as a way to document recovery from Hurricane Ian in 2022. Moved to Florida in my van and lived in the back yard of the house our son lives in (and new grand-daughter). After a couple years, we decided we should have our own space (and give them theirs). So we bought a house on the other side of the river. Then Debby, Helene and Milton whacked both houses within a couple months. Insanity.

We had bought a Class A (more space! A washer and dryer!), which was flooded and totaled in Helene. The silver Travato van shown in the original photos here died on a x-country trip in July 2024 and is still (as of April 2025) at a dealership awaiting a new engine. I used the insurance money from the Class A to purchase another van (Ford Transit chassis this time) because I still needed to travel and couldn’t wait forever for the van to be repaired.

The strawberry blonde husky dog shown in original photos also passed away. So my travel buddy spot in the van was empty and left a gaping hole. In February of 2024, we adopted Wynnie, an all white Husky/Shepherd mix. She’s a sweetheart and who you will see going forward.

Anyway, I’m hoping to back date posts from all the travels and photos, but we’re still around and still vanning!
