Ian struck Cayo Costa island (one of my favorite beaches, and yes, the same one I kayaked to a year earlier) at the mouth of Charlotte Harbor where it meets the Gulf on September 28th. The kids live right up the river from there. However, since the property was on the north side of the eye wall, the storm surge struck further south in Fort Myers. However, there was significant damage to their property and I began making plans to head straight there after the bridge tournament ended and I dropped KT back in California.
First, I had to get the darn propane fixed again. I hired a mobile RV technician who discovered Winnebago installed two regulators – a big one and a little one – and he wasn’t sure why. He replaced the combo with one big one and tada – my stove worked again! If the power was still out in Florida by the time I got there, I would also need the propane to heat the water.
The kids weathered the storm fine in their AirBnB and headed back home. Soon the photos started trickling in.
