Niagara Falls - Canada Side (boat for scale)

When AT tried to enter Canada six months prior, as mentioned, her van was stuffed to the gills with her belongings. The border agent looked at her and said, “Nope, looks like you’re trying to move here.” So she rented a storage unit in Buffalo, NY and unloaded her van before successfully crossing over again.

So our mission was to unload the storage unit, but first, we stopped at Niagara Falls on the Canada side (which I had heard had the better view anyway). The plan was to then unload the storage unit into her van, cross back into Canada to take the shortcut route across to Michigan to re-enter the US. Except her van was going to be full of stuff again.

Niagara Falls was beautiful. I had never been and the weather was cool, but perfect.

It took some manual labor to completely empty AT’s storage unit (how did she have so much stuff?!). And then she went in our van with KT and I drove her van across the border back into Canada in case the stuffed packing was questioned again. I was just going to say we were taking the shortest route. But nobody asked me any questions.

The line through was super long and I started getting traffic jam rage as people drove down the shoulder to pretend to go to the restroom building near the exit and then sneak back into the line.

My new challenge in finding spots to stop overnight was to find places with rentable cabins. Our van only sleeps two and AT’s van was too packed to sleep in. Our first stop was way up in the “thumb” of Michigan. I found a park with an old lighthouse, RV park and cabins. We only reserved the cabin and parked in front of it (not using any power or water).

We tried to take a boat tour the next morning to see some sights only viewable by water, but the wind was blowing too hard and the tours were canceled. Bummer! Loved the area, but I know all too well what it’s like there in the winter.
