I had always been intrigued by the Bonneville Salt Flats just past Wendover and prior to Salt Lake City, UT, and when I realized a large portion of that area was BLM land you could stay on, I jumped at the chance, particularly since it was a good stopping point one day’s drive from Tahoe.

The notes mentioned vehicles getting stuck in the salt, so I was careful not to stray far off the gravel road. The last thing I wanted was to get the van stuck (again) in the desert.
The location turned out to be a playground for ATVs. KT was not thrilled with that aspect as they were doing donuts and hot-rodding around pretty close to us. They left by sunset, so it didn’t bother me much. The nearest people were so far away, you could barely see their trailers in the distance.
This was our first opportunity to deploy the GoalZero 1500x with the Starlink and AppleTV. Woohoo! It worked. There was no cell signal at this location.
On our morning walk, I spotted the BLM sign for the Silver Island Back Country Byway, which sounds intriguing. One of these days when I’m not going from Point A to Point B as fast as possible, maybe I’ll explore it.
