Ian’s track prediction changed at the last minute before landfall after becoming a Category 5 storm, and was now targeting the kids’ location directly with warnings of up to 18 feet of storm surge. I was completely consumed tracking Ian and getting the kids to evacuate somewhere safe since they live on the water. The only problem was all hotels were booked by that point, plus they had two large dogs. My son, T, finally managed to find an AirBnB, but being broke, I had to pay for it and had difficulty since my credit card declined it and the AirBnB system doesn’t allow you to book for someone else. The owner/manager called me and we worked it out after another phone call to my card’s bank, thankfully. It was a brand new short-term rental. I hoped the kids would be clean. They got out and to the rental in the nick of time, while I was beside myself.
