Fog was thick leaving the banks of the Suwanee River. I noticed gas prices dropped even more as we crossed into Mississippi.
I had seen a lot of hype around Buc-ee’s gas stations, but hadn’t yet experienced one, however I had been amused by their billboards on previous trips (not sure I could hold a bathroom break for 150 miles, but the signs were entertaining). So when we saw one on the way, we jumped at the opportunity and loaded up on Beaver Nuggets, beef jerky and some funky jellies. The lines were far too long for me to wait for brisket.
Overall impression? Overrated. The Beaver Nugs made me feel a bit ill after awhile. The beef jerky was dry and hard to eat. The jelly was good (blueberry jalapeño). It was just an overcrowded ginormous gas station and convenience store with cute marketable tschochkes. (however you spell that)
The Pocket Museum was cute – you really had to look for some of the displays. We eagerly sent our eldest photos since she loves that stuff. Then it started to pour.
We ended up “cheating” for the night at a Hampton Inn to take advantage of the large bed and endless hot shower. I find the shower in the van to be sufficient, but KT likes a little more luxury once in a while. Therefore, I did not add MS to our van travel map stickers as it only counts if you sleep in the van in the state.
