After a lunch of crawfish étouffée in Shreveport, LA, I dropped KT at the Dallas-Fort Worth airport, so he could fly home (bridge tournament coming up that didn’t fit the driving schedule). But since we raced there, I could take my time getting to San Diego.

Since dropping him for the flight ate up most of the day, I pulled out my app to see if I could find anything free nearby. “Free” camping sites were my go-to lately as I found them much more interesting than RV parks (for sure!) and even some state/county parks. For one, there was a challenge to finding good ones and they all varied. For two, they didn’t usually require reservations, so were much easier to snag “on the fly” so to speak, which was the way I traveled. I rarely knew where I was going to stop for the night until I got tired of driving or the sun was going down.

I found a park in Granbury, TX on a river (did I mention I also always try to find something on water?). I drove around it a few times until I decided to drive down the ramp to the parking lot for the fishing pier. That was juuuust right.
