I drove the couple hours from Philly to DC and bought new flip-flops and other assorted requirements. My old crew and I decided to meet up at a bar we used to frequent in Arlington, VA a few blocks from our old office before we were relocated into DC proper. We had a great time […]
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Made it to Philly! Got to see A’s apartment and clear out my van. I didn’t even want to attempt parking the van on the street in Philly, so I went to Walmart and had A meet me there, where we transferred her belongings from my van to hers. I briefly considered staying in the […]
Ravenna, Ohio
I seem to be missing a day here. I suspect I stopped at one of my parents’ houses in Illinois before resuming the trek. Found a nice spot on another lake in Ohio at a state park. The site backed right up to the water. Bushes were planted between all the sites, giving a nice […]
Intro to TOWB Facebook Group
Stopped for the night at Lake Anita State Park in Iowa and drove both loops looking for a nice private spot. There was an upper and lower campground, so I chose a spot near the end of the lower loop across from the lake. I had noticed another Travato while circling the upper loop. While […]
Bushnell, Nebraska
Found a nice “$5 donation suggested” campground on a small lake. No hookups and no clear indication of spots. All the places next to the water’s edge were occupied, so I parked in a field with a view of the water. In the morning many people ran loud backfiring generators, so that was rather annoying.
Coalville, Utah
To take AT’s bike to her (and my eBike for any exploration I wanted to do along the way after getting set up in camp), I put our decades old bike rack on the hitch. It was not meant for the wide frames of eBikes and the straps to hook around the frame were brittle […]
Going Solo For First Time
After attending to medical issues in the Bay Area, it was time for me to set out in the van on my own with my loyal companion, my dog, Riley (so not entirely solo). Our daughter, AT, had graduated from high school a year prior and thanks to Covid, could attend college classes online. Half […]
CalFire Demonstration Forest
I can’t believe I don’t have any pictures of this, because it was a heck of a story! We made our way toward the California coast, with an eye to Glass Beach, but stopped short of the coast at a Cal Fire Demonstration Forest, which was a “first come first serve” (FCFS) campground. It was […]
Winnemucca, Nevada
I’m pretty sure this was the first time we tried BLM land. I’m also pretty sure it’s the first (but not the last) time we got the van stuck. But first, we stopped in Wendover, NV after crossing out of Utah, where we saw the giant cowboy. As for getting stuck, we followed a trail […]
North Sterling, Colorado
We dipped down to Colorado just for fun. I mean, why not? It was soooo close!
